Folding Walker – Looking for a compact one, Here is a complete review of the EZ Fold-N-Go model.

Folding Walker

Author: G.Guido Rodriguez PT, RT, about this author..⟩⟩

I was asked about a folding walker “ideal for traveling”, so I decided to review this model that in my opinion is the best for the task, and give you some insights about it.

But, before we get too much into this foldable walker and this model, in particular, let me mention that a medical grade “regular” foldable front wheeled walker is mostly designed for people with mild-moderate balance problems.

So, the best thing to do here will be to have a physical therapist assess your mobility and balance problems to determine the best assistive device for you. Got it?

Device features

EZ Fold-N-Go is perhaps one of the most compacts, lightweight, folding front wheeled walker ever created. I have reviewed multiple products from this manufacturer which is Stander,

It is fabricated of aircraft quality aluminum which means that it is extremely light and yet sturdy enough to support the weight of up to 400 lbs. It is a foldable walker, means that it is easy to store anywhere.

It easily fits in your car, the overhead compartment of an airplane, or just any place with little space.

6″ locking swivel wheels and rear easy-glide feet means that it can be used practically just on any surface and is extremely easy to maneuver and use, especially on the non-smooth surfaces.

Once you get the folding walker out of original packing, it is already assembled and easy to open, just like an umbrella.

Handles height are adjustable to fit users from 4’10”-6’8″. Unlike traditional walkers, even the width of the walker is ideal for use in narrow spaces like narrow doorways, in the restaurant, or shopping malls.

This walker is all about compactness, extra comfort, foldability, adjustability (almost every part of it is adjustable with minimum effort) that is not offered by any other walker that I have tested; It even has an organizer pouch to carry those extra items.

Another great feature is that this compact walker can stand alone when folded.

The biggest design difference is perhaps the locking swivel wheels on the front side; most front-wheeled walkers have fixed wheels in the front.

These wheels make it easier to walk on various surfaces; they can be locked for easy movement in the straight direction or unlocked for better maneuverability.

Overall performance

It’s an amazing alternative to the traditional folding walker, offering much more features, ease of use, without compromise on the basic functionality and safety of a walker, which is to provide stability while walking.

Though its light-weight and maneuverability may cause some fear in people used to traditional, non-adjustable, heavy walkers, keep in mind that this walker is intended primarily when portability is a must.

Conclusion and rating (0-100%) for Durability, Comfort, and Performance

So, If you need a lightweight, foldable walker for example; for traveling purposes when portability, compactibility, and foldability are the principal features, this device is what you need.

How many foldable walkers fit in the overhead compartment of an airplane, well, this one does.

Please Don’t compare this device with a foldable 4 wheeled-walker, which is a bigger, heavier unit. We are talking about “Compact” here,

Most of the durable equipment experts for people living with disabilities that I have spoken to agree that this is one of the best and most feature-rich (yet easy to use) walker they have seen.

One of my patients reported hitting his knees on it, but it was due to a poor height adjustment of the handles, they were to low for this patient’s height, to avoid this make sure that your elbows bend 30 degrees when standing upright in front of the walker with your hands on the handles.

If one has to describe this walker in four words, then they would be: portable, strong, foldable and adjustable.

This walker can be given a rating of 90% on the scale of 100. Well, nothing is perfect in our world, and this walker is a bit difficult to use on slippery surfaces.

Here is a video from the manufacturer presenting its product, in case you are interested in watching it.

It has many benefits over the traditional walkers:

  • Easy to fold, with the lift of a finger and lift only 7 Lbs, the lightest in the market
  • Small size, once folded means easily fits any place
  • Adjustable width means that can move through narrow spaces and doorways
  • Lifetime warranty the company assures that this is the last portable walker you ever have to buy, If you are unsatisfied for any reason – they will fix or replace your product.

Perhaps the only disadvantage of the product is that some of the users may find it a little slippery and unstable.

This happens because people get used to using the heavy and more difficult to move walkers, thus getting used to such easy moving walker takes time.

Like with “all”  front wheeled walkers with glides in the back, they wear over time needing replacement and these walkers are not the best for outdoor surfaces, they perform the best indoor, (they offer replacements for the easy-glides in sets of two, in case you need them).

Some users may feel it bit unstable during the initial phase of use. So once you get it, try it first to get the feel of it and practice a little, of course, if you are unsteady with this walker, this may not be the safest device for you, your balance is compromised and needs assessment by a physical therapist.

But, it is just a matter of time before a person gets used to this walker and understands the comfort offered by its various features.

Just so you know, I am not affiliated in any way with this brand, I have seen, tested and reviewed many of its products, (like I do with multiple other brands) and they tend to fabricate good quality, innovative, safe and functional devices.

    This is great!

I have been looking for something that is more compact for when my gramma and I go out and about.

She has a walker but it’s like ten years old and is really awkward to fit into a vehicle. It’s nice with newer innovations that conquer these problems from older models. I will definitely be looking into this!

Hi Kahlua, thanks for your comment, I recommended this product based in the extensive review we did, we only review products that we have tested based on functionality, performance, and safety. I also recommend that depending on the person’s balance, to use a gait belt , this will allow helpers to provide increased safety and prevent falls particularly transitioning in different surfaces, curbs etc. take care of your grandma, you may also want to read this article for tips about improving balance, thank you

I didn’t even know that there were folding portable, lightweight walkers made!

My mum is nearing her 80’s and with arthritis setting in she would be a perfect candidate for one of these.

She is a small person, not heavy at all and the lightness of this unit would be ideal, it would allow her to put in the boot of the car when she goes to do her shopping.

She has been looking for something like this for quite some time.

If the unit is light enough to be put in the overhead lockers of planes, then it is a testament to its design to be so strong.

Even though mum will not be on a plane again, it is the best thing for her to use when shopping, therefore it is ideal for traveling.

Thank you for the information, I believe we have found a solution for my mother’s problems. Great news!

Hi Steve thank for your comment, yes it is a lightweight and compact assistive device we had pleasure to review, however, keep in mind that due to its lightweight design, it can be too “light” for some people used to heavier walker, make sure your mum is safe with it, or consult with your physical therapist about it, the idea here is to prevent falls, good luck and say Hi to your mother.

I recommend you also read one of my articles where I talk about how to improve balance, good tips over there,…

      Thank you

Wow, that was a really great article! I don’t have anyone in my life right now that needs a walker however I did appreciate all the information you provided. Years ago, my father had a walker that was pretty large and cumbersome. It’s great to see how compact they have become. If I ever need one in the future, I now know how much they have improved. The price seems quite reasonable too!
Thanks again for the informative article.
    Have a great day!
